Before that… she’d been staring at it for more than two hours in her quarters. And before that she’d been staring at it in the junior officers’ bull pen for at least an hour.

However, it all got her nowhere

Awww ... I just love Lorne in this. He's such a stand-up guy. Not his usual snarky self, but completely sympathetic, because he's been where Laura is, probably too much.

Lovely little story, and I can see Cadmon fighting her way through this, trying to be a Marine, an officer, and also a woman.

Just *aww*. It's not really cute, but somehow it is. It's also sad and a very good character piece for Cadman and very well written Lorne.

I really like the way quiet support between these two just makes sense, especially in the context of all the tensions you note within Laura's position.

I really like Cadman's combination of vulnerability and stubbornness here, and her sense of responsibility for her team. Lorne's sympathetic support is also nicely done.
