M is for Moebius

Written for Time Travel Alphabet Soup, and rather unimaginatively titled. In a missing scene from Moebius, Sam argues with Daniel, or maybe with herself. 800 words. Rated PG, with a warning for canonical major character deaths.

As I have told you before, and will no doubt tell you again, time travel makes my head hurt. This episode especially. After Ra leaves, okay, so Skipper!Jack and Geek!Sam settle down together and hope that they don't produce offspring who become timeline issues. NotOur!Teal'c lasts as long as his symbiote. But what happens with our Original!Daniel? Does he die in Ancient Egypt, only to be born again as he always was? What a terrible burden for an archaeologist to know that he is living and knows intimately the truth he sought all his life of what life was like in the Old Kingdom, and yet that knowledge will never escape the Pharaonic Period

I am so sorry for taking so long to respond to this!

Like you, I think Daniel had the worst time of it in Moebius. He's always been much better at leaving than being left, which probably goes back to when he was eight years old. How cruel is it to deal with people with his best friends' faces who aren't them? And as you say, how hard must it be to be living history, and not dare to leave anything behind?

But let's also consider the cruelty to Moebius!Teal'c, who dies for a better future for someone else, and Skipper!Jack and Geeky!Sam, who didn't ask for this and are lost in a universe where they shouldn't exist. There's a reason why I subtitle Moebius as the ep that teaches us "how to be cruel to your team," oh yes.

So yes for the head hurting time travel, and thanks for the lovely, thinky feedback. :)
