Written for the sg1friendathon, for the prompt: Teal'c and Daniel. "To be honest, I've had more successful conversations with dogs." 3,775 words. Set in early S1, shortly after Thor's Hammer and Cor Ai. Rated PG.

I loved this, and I loved the pack leader 'claiming' the staff weapon. The initial section in particular, with the nature of Teal'c's attackers carefully veiled, was beautifully done!

I'm so pleased that first section worked well - I was afraid it was a little too obvious that I was sidestepping any real identification.

And yay for claims. Even if they do involve gloves. :)

It was noticeable rather than obvious, and elegant; it highlighted the fact that this was Teal'c's POV, and that Teal'c doesn't see the world in the same way.

Good one, though too bad Jack ("dogs are my favorite people") couldn't have had a part in this, too.

Thanks for all you did to urge the creation of all these good SG1 friendship fics, I've really enjoyed reading them. I love my team!

Thank you so much! I'm really glad the Friendathon worked so well this year.

And yes, Jack was supposed to be referenced, with his gift to Cassie. But Teal'c and Daniel insisted on the angstier version. They were really in control of this fic, not me. :)

Heh, yes - the prompt clearly begged for the story of the doggy conversation that was better than the little white guys. And I had to work in the chicken dance, if only to make up for Daniel's UAV impersonation in that ep. ;) Thanks!

Thank you! It was a fun prompt and it was a rather odd experience to see where my brain (and Daniel, and Teal'c) took it. Glad you liked it and that the tension came across. :)

Hee, dog ethology. (I'm a sucker for anything with dog ethology.)

I enjoyed Daniel's attempts to communicate, and his notice of the similarities between the dog leader and Jack. I have a feeling that's one diplomatic encounter Jack will be sorry to have missed.

Also: Abydos chicken dance. Yes. (And then he has to go invent the plane dance for the One False Step aliens. Clearly, Daniel's native sign language is interpretive dance.)

Heh, yes, I so much wanted to work in more Jack references, like Cassie's dog and Teal'c wondering why Daniel hadn't followed Tau'ri law in his childhood. And yes, Jack and Leader would've instantly bonded. Or not. Possibly both.

I love Daniel's interpretive dances. If you haven't read K is for Kawoosh, go read and smile. :)
