Redial the Gate: Allegiance

Jan 10, 2010 23:10

Last week, all my fannish time was occupied with Alphabet Soup and Gen Fic Day, so I didn't have a chance to rewatch Allegiance. And it is a rewatch, too; a year or so ago, when aurora_novarum was trying to coax me into watching S6, she recced it for its general lack of Jonasness (don't forget, I wasn't anti-Jonas but I wasn't a fan either) and the high quality ( Read more... )

Did you make that icon?! I'm very impressed!

And yes, overwhelming awesomeness personified. I know re the TERs, but since it allowed even more Bra'tac awesomeness, it's forgiven.

Teal'c telling Janet, of all people, that the ashrak managed to kill Jolinar...? We could've used Jonas in this scene just to avoid the stupid "As you know, Bob" stuff.

Hee, this is true, but I think you're right, there's already so much going on.

Thanks! I still can't figure out shades, coloring, blurs, etc. but I can manage a simple gif. :)

Hee! Yeah, that forgives practically everything. :D

Awesome icon is awesome :-)

As I've just paid my subscription and have spare userpic spaces, I think this one deserves a slot.

how lucky is the SGC that the Tok'ra couldn't dial Earth and accidentally bring an invisible Ashrak to the planet?

This highlights a pretty much unfixable piece of stupid in canon. After the Reetou, the SGC was supposed to have used the TER tech to make sure that invisible out of phase creatures couldn't get through the gate anymore. And yet we have Nirrti waltzing in via the gate at will in S5.

Yes! That was so wrong.

It is hugely annoying, yes. Maybe the TER tech expired or something...

Oh, one can fanwank it. It was accidently shorted out when they were trying to the fix the Gate's re-frambulator, and because no one had heard of Reetou in years, Hammond authorized them to continue normal operations while it was being fixed...which just *happens* to be when Nirrti came through. But I don't *like* it. It's inelegant, it doesn't tie to anything else and it can't be mistaken for anything but a patch for a writer bloophole.

Why was Bra'tac the only one using his staff weapon? I mean, YAY BRA'TAC and all, but why?

the actual, but suspension of disbelief killing reason, is that they (the people making the show) didn't have enough staff weapons, or working/moving zats.

your icon prowess is awe inspiring.

Maybe all those blanks that Jack fired used up the special effects budget! :D

Glad you liked the icon. :)

The awesomeness of Bra'tac and Jacob is really the only thing that saves this ep for me. I nitpick so much-but the episode is full of bloopholes! Better not to start. I might never finish.

I have also wondered why they don't use the Gate as a handy-dandy hazmat destruction device. All I've been able to come up with is that they have enough danger in the mountain already without sending in supposedly secured nuclear waste or other things that could be turned to bad purposes on one of the many occasions one or more of the bad guys gets the upper hand at the SGC.

That one's easy- security. There are too many people in the chain of accountability for hazardous waste...you just can't funnel tons of the stuff into a military base and make it disappear. Too many questions, which they can't answer. It'll be one of the great uses for the gate once it goes public!

Hm, I think Redbyrd's right - too many questions would be asked. Although possibly not as much, say, as a disappearing skyscraper. (Oh, show...)

Lots to nitpick, but a fun ep, yep!
