that is a very interesting take on the end of Singularity... I also really liked that Jack was worried about chain of command and yet Daniel immediately thought about Sam's mental status--they really characterize the two questioners very well...

I really like the three-dimensional aspect you provide; the mission was a success and yet not really so. It was a failure on many levels, and it proves that sometimes the means doesn't justify the ends, but maybe just ameliorates them a bit.

I'm really glad you liked it! You have no idea how much trouble I had with this one. I knew what I wanted to say, because there were elements of the episode that always bugged me, but I had a tremendously difficult time showing what Jack, Daniel, and Teal'c were feeling while keeping the story focused on Sam and Janet. And on my first draft, I got way off track by writing toward the concensus of the episode (or my impression of the concensus, anyway), rather than what I really wanted to say. All in all, I learned tons, but it was hard!

This is one of my all time favourite episodes because of Sam's indecision and then conviction. I like how you touch on Sam's guilt at disobeying the order and I really liked how Janet can put Sam in her place and reassure her at the same time. Very nice.

Thank you very much! Janet rules, does she not? ; )

Oh yey! I put a Sam & Janet prompt in (something to do with "those first few weeks") and though I deliberately left it vague, I was kinda hoping someone would take it to mean right after Cassie arrived.
This prompt wasn't mine, but this is exactly the kind of thing I was after. Go you. *g*

I loved the way you addressed the issues this ep threw up - the issues that were touched on and then kind of swept under the carpet in canon. Cos dude, fallout much? For Sam and for the rest of the team as well. And, of course, the Sam & Janet dynamic with their developing relationship and the hints of the closer friendship to come. Cheers!

Oh, yeah-they opened a big kettle of fish with this one, and then never addressed the issues they'd raised. I shudder to think what would happen to a real officer that made the same kind of decision. Sam was a very lucky woman. Very.
So glad you liked it and got the story you were looking for!

Thanks for writing this. I always wondered why Sam didn't explain her reasoning to Jack on the radio.

Heh, no problem! I always had problems with some of Sam's actions in this episode, so I had some things to work out myself!

You made a list, and I'm reading it :) Well, everything up to season 6 anyway.

I like this - I hadn't thought about the inevitable fallout and military!Janet is great.

Ha! Lists work! ;)
Glad you liked it. I don't think we saw enough of Janet as an officer, and wow, did Sam ever screw up here!

That episode always bugged the heck out of me for the reasons I bring up here... I may have to go back to it sometime, because I felt really limited by that fact that I had to only use Sam and Janet as main characters, since it was for the Galpalficathon. There really needed to be a big scene with Sam and Jack, and probably another with Sam and Daniel.
