her eyes came to rest on Sha’re, who stood a few feet away, hands on her hips, eyes fairly crackling with fire and Sam suddenly had no problem envisioning the Abydonian boldly sharing forbidden secrets with Daniel, demanding that her people know the truth at all costs, and standing up to face down a god

::loves::

I was planning to work my way down the master list, but I had to go and read this one first!

Oh, Annerb. This is just beautiful.

The blatant metaphor of her own picture in the trash, and closing the lid on the intrusion of the outside world to focus on just the team. The feeling of drifting, because no one quite expected what would happen. The nagging persistence of everything not-quite-right resolving into yes-we-can-deal. I love the way Sam first perceives Sha're through the eyes of a modern-day American woman, and only later begins to appreciate her strength. I love seeing Sha're through Sam's eyes, and Sam seeing herself with clearer vision.

Sam likes to think of it as evidence that some things really can remain ( ... )

Sorry about the wordcount! Got it fixed. :) And can I say what a relief it is that you liked it. You were a great help as I blundered my way through this. And as much as I complained, I am very glad I tried to do this now, because my love for Sha're is even greater now! She will have to somehow pop up in more of my fic somehow. :)

I sort of sat down and thought about Sam and Sha're and how much on the surface they seem like complete opposites, or even more than that, complete mysteries to each other. I doubt Sha're could easily relate to the idea of a female soldier/scientist anymore than Sam could relate to Sha're. But when you get below that surface, I think they really admire each other for their strengths and maybe even compliment perfectly. I'm just very, very sad we never got to see this relationship on the screen.

So thank you, for reading and for helping out! :)

I've been so anxious to see the final product. Oh annerb, this turned out great! I really love the camaraderie you developed between Sam and Sha're in this fic. We know Sam so well, and haven't had a chance to know Sha're as well as we could, I think you balanced that nicely from Sam's pov. And I love the setting, and the AU, and the trip up to Alma's Peak, which you already knew I adored, and...

Yeah. :-D

Oh good. Phew. I was hoping the changes worked, I just completely ran out of time to run it by anyone one more time. Such a relief to have this done and turned in! :)

Thank you so much for all your help (mostly in retaining my sanity;)

Oh, my god. You made me cry at work.

Okay--"cry" is too strong a word, but tear up! Seriously!

I love everything about this fic, from the AU-ness of it, to the difficult path, to Sam being Sam, and Sha're being strong in a very Sha're sort of way.

Did she honestly just feel gratitude to the Jaffa for being a pain in her ass? She’s definitely losing it.

This just amused me no end. Because it's exactly like Sam to think that way. Also, Jack's note just hilarifies me for no particular reason. Maybe because it's so casual. I think it's the "You in or what?" that does it.

Little notes of humor! Emotional crisis! Fame! Mentions of grocery shopping! ;-P

*sighs happily*

Tearing up *and* hilarifying you? (Have you been watching Firefly again?;) I am very glad to hear you liked it. Thanks!

Not Firefly. I got into the bad habit of ironic poor speech habits in college, and it's not been corrected by my later habits online. ;-)

We see way too little of who Sha're must have really been. Great look at who the women of Stargate-Sam and Sha're-are in their hearts.

Thank you! And definitely, I fell in love with Sha'uri in the movie and Sam in the series, so it's a real joy to get the chance to write them together, to try and imagine what their relationship might have been like. Now I just wish we could have had something on the show! :)

This is beautiful. I wish I had something a little more intelligent and detailed to say here, but I don't. Wow.

I will say that “Change is not the same as loss,” should probably be tattooed on the inside of my eyelids, and given that fact, this fic really, really struck a chord for me. Beautifully done.

Thank you so much.

Yeah, of all people, Sha're probably has more experience and understanding of change and loss and how we as humans deal with it. (But I'm with Sam, I have a hard time telling them apart too.) I am very glad you enjoyed the story.
