::happy sigh:: I love this! Early EARLY Teal'c still trying to figure out these inexplicable Tau'ri, and Daniel stepping up to explain. Yes. And I grinned at Teal'c's brave attempts to talk about the weather. And the concept of hallowed ground and their promise for the future. So lovely!

Thanks for writing. :)

I'm glad you liked it. I have to confess that it was much harder to write than I originally anticipated and I wasn't completely satisfied with the end result.

Thank you. I'm glad that particular line you quoted worked out the way I intended.

I have this head-canon that the SG team leaders have some kind of an informal boys club (I don't think we ever actually saw a female leader before Sam) due to the fact that they have very unique jobs about which they cannot really talk.

Very, very nice. I love Daniel's comments about hallowed ground being weighted down with misery and sorrow. Beautiful line! Was good seeing Teal'c coming to the realization that not all Tau'ri rituals are inexplicable and strange. And seeing this early friendship developing between the team. Thanks for sharing!

I defy anyone to step on the ground at Arlington without getting a chill. Like all good tales, the story of Arlington is both triumph and tragedy, the best and worst of humanity.

Thanks for reading.

What a sad, sweet look at the start of their friendship, made all the more poignant by the fact that Teal'c will kill Shau'ri in the future. Very well written, too.

I love Teal'c here. It hadn't occurred to me how foreign the whole thing would be to him: rituals for dead humans, burying them in the ground, a wake. . . .

I also like Daniel carrying a beer to keep people from bothering him to get a beer.

Well done.

Oh, and Teal'c has expressed sentiments also found in Lincoln's Gettysburg Address: "But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate-we can not consecrate-we can not hallow-this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract."

A friend of mine used to do that at parties to keep folks from urging her to eat when she was trying to diet. She would fill a small plate with stuff she didn't really like and just kind of carry it around.

That has to be one of the greatest speeches ever written. And when you think about the fact that he didn't really have a bunch of speech writers and how primitive some folks might consider Lincoln's education, it's even more impressive.

Thank you for reading and commenting.
