The first installment of what I’m informally referring to as the Peter DeLuise and Gary Jones Chronicles begins with The Sentinel. I think it’s only fair to offer a warning that I while I’m not setting out to be obnoxious in my recaps, I’m not terribly fond of the commentary stylings of Gary Jones. With that introduction out of the way, let’s get

Wow, this commentary review is longer than I thought one made by PdL and GJ would be -- but, like you said, it's early yet!
Some joking between them that Daniel is obviously smarter than Grieves because he’s wearing glasses. ... PDL says that his direction was to tell her that she was strangely attracted to Daniel at this point.
I should say that Christina Cox (Kershaw) is now starring in her own show on Lifetime called Blood Ties. Her character wears glasses, too! As far as being attracted to Daniel for his brains, I can see that. :)
PDL talks about how they don’t usually tie the shooter and the shootee into a single shot but they did for Kershaw.
Hmmm. I think I'll look for this in future episodes to see if that changed, for PdL or any other director. There are zat shots, but that's usually done mostly by visual effects. Do you think that because this was a staff blast that it was different because of explosives, stunt doubles, etc.?

Regarding tying the shooter and shootee together: your speculation was my impression from the way he phrased things. He did make some sort of comment that Christina did her own fall. I'm guesing that maybe it simplifies adding any special effects to the shot if that's necessary. He didn't say anything about this, but I'm wondering separating the two allows the filming to hone in on performance of both shooter and/or victim? But I'm guessing that it's mostly an effects thing....

PDL and Martin Wood did one of the SGA Season 2 commentaries together. Man, MW would not let PDL get away with any of his usual shenanigans. I actually sensed tension between them. It was interesting... their commentaries couldn't be more different!

MW and PDL do have very different styles, don't they? I could see where they might not be a perfect match on the commentary scene. MW's my favorite. I don't dislike PDL but he needs someone to keep him on task. It's what makes his pairing with GJ so disastrous. They bring out the worst in each other. They're like two people at a dinner table that dominate the conversation with their own tangents and injokes while everyone else gets more and more restive and wishes they could find a way to introduce a new topic.
