Alternates: Round 3 // Challenge 5

Nov 12, 2009 21:12

Did you create a few icons for the challenge and then choose the best one to submit? Did you make icons from the caps though you did not participate in the last challenge?

If so, this is where you can post those "rejected" icons (along with your submitted entry) and make them sharable to others.

round 3, round 3.05:alternates, alternates, round 3.05

Please don't stop trying new things and please make icons that don't look like the rest. Yes, it is risky, but when it works that is when a lims produces really striking icons. I don't think your entered icons really "works" but I didn't vote it LF as I almost never do for one that is highly original as yours is! I hate it when someone wins a lims by always using the same style, plays it safe and never tries anything creative. I really like your second and third alternates. The transition between the elements is less severe than in our entered icon and the crop is brilliant.

That's very kind of you to say. Sorry if I appear snippy or whatnot, bad day rl wise. :P I went against my better judgement on this one, trying to think of what would be pleasing to others as per the outcomes of the previous challenges. More colour for one as my icons tend to be quite lacking in that area. This was my trying to change that. Hehe!

This is also my first ever LIMS so I am probably still feeling my way around, learning what works and which boundries - style wise etc to push in order to find my niche.

I am certainly no expert as this is only my 3rd lims but I take negative comments in stride and I don't always agree with them or accommodate them (even though they occasionally make me frustrated). I once made an icon that got me narrowly voted out of the lims and one comment said that they didn't like the red in the icon that was exactly as I had intended. True - more colorful icons tend to get more votes (but really bright sometimes gets punished). It is up to you if you want to go that way or stay true to your own style.

No worries - we all have bad days. You are a good icon maker, I just don't want you to get discouraged. :)

I was prepared to see myself go this round because I've noticed that all the icons I myself think are nice get mostly negative votes, lol. But I didn't want to pick a "safe" icon but chose the one I liked instead and didn't care about the result. XD

So, submitted:

Don't worry about some of the negative votes. Worse is getting no votes - positive or negative. Don't make boring icons like mine this round, yours are much more interesting. Love the texture on your second alternative. I think it comes down to whether you just want to win or if you want to feel good about your entries (at least that's how I think about it). You probably can win by entering middle of the road icons for most of the rounds but it is more fun to enter creative icons that might draw some negative votes. Just my thoughts on it. <3

I've actually once gotten no votes whatsoever on an icon I made (that was last round, I think) and it made me wonder if it really was that boring of an icon. xD But anyway, thank you, though I don't think that my icons are that interesting in general - I mean, I tend not to actually do anything really creative with them, maybe save from some croppings. Mostly I just play around with textures. (And I must admit that I've always liked your icons. :D ( ... )
