1. Before he gets deployed overseas for the first time. Dave is at Harvard at the time - far away from their father - which is the only reason John even went to see him. It was awkward at best.
2. Before he leaves for Atlantis. He's not sure if it actually counts as a visit since he never got out of his rental car and Dave never knew he was there.
3. After Atlantis comes to Earth. Things have been better between them, but you can only repair so much while in two different galaxies. Especially when the person back on Earth doesn't know that.
4. The day DADT is repealed. John is stunned when Dave tells him that he already knew.

The day before the Stargate Program is declassified. There's nowhere they can completely hide and the press will find them eventually, but Cole's is as close to the middle of nowhere they can get.
Great list! I love that second one! That sounds exactly like John, going to visit and then driving away without ever knocking. I've decided now that's really what happened. :D
