I cannot say how happy it made me to see such a positive response to my entry earlier this week about fandom. ::squishes all of you:: So we'll be having SG-1 Gen Fic Day on October 15th, complete with SGC Alphabet Soup.
For this fourteenth Soup, we'll be going with an ensemble cast: any character who is SGC personnel and is not the subject of a previous Alphabet Soup. This includes SG teams (other than SG-1, natch), medical personnel, scientists, guards, techs, and even original characters like the janitor who needs to clean up invisible Reetou bits or the cook who has to deal with the wrong kind of potatoes in the commissary. You may choose to feature Walter the Chevron Guy or General Landry, Siler or Bill Lee, Robert Rothman or Reynolds, Carolyn Lam or Jennifer Hailey -- they're all part of the SGC!
To clarify: you may not write about SG-1 (Sam, Daniel, Teal'c, Jack, Jonas, Cam, or Vala), or George Hammond, or Janet Frasier. Anyone else who works at the SGC is fair game. Technically, that means Paul Davis ought to be excluded, but I promise not to complain if Paul fic gets written... ;)
This is how it works: the letters of the alphabet are available on a first come, first served basis. Comment and claim a letter - one letter per author only. I'll strike them out as they're claimed, but as long as you made your request first, the letter is yours. You don't need to specify the character you intend to write about, although you're certainly welcome to do so! By making a claim, you are committing yourself to writing at least 100 words of gen fic by October 15th.
We usually have keywords as suggestions, but I've skipped that step for two reasons: one, there are so many options for subject matter that keywords seem more or less moot; and two, since I'll be going offline for a while next week, I don't really have time for it. :) So just claim your letter and use your imagination!
On October 15th, comment with your fic in the SG-1 Gen Fic Day post, using the title as the subject of your comment (C is for Chevrons, W is for Wrench, D is for Dixon, or whatever). Send me a copy by e-mail as well. When all the letters have been submitted, I'll collate all the ficlets in alphabetical order and post them together as a complete anthology. The anthology on LJ is usually abridged due to posting contraints, with links to the remaining stories at the authors' individual journals; the DW version is complete and unabridged.

There are only four rules: your fic must be at least 100 words, although there is no maximum limit; it must be about someone who is SGC personnel, whether canonical or original; the fic must be canon compliant, although it does not have to reference canon specifically and may be set in any era in which the SGC actually exists; and it should be gen. This is part of SG-1 Gen Fic Day, after all. :)
Please bear in mind that while SG-1 or Janet or George are welcome to be featured in your story, the focus of the fic should be about other SGC personnel and not them. They've already had their time in the spotlight! (Or in the pot, I suppose.) Also, an author is welcome to mention canon relationships - for example, Simon Wells and Dave Dixon are both married, and Bill Lee has kids. But no romance, please, and no AUs or alternate timelines. If in doubt, feel free to ask.
