Brownies

My good friend Jeff is a vegan, and every time I have an event that needs truly vegan recipes, I ask him for help. So this weekend, where there was the chance that somone vegan might show up, I hopped onto IRC and made him transcribe the brownie recipe stuck to his fridge.

It's a very nice recipe to look at. Not just because it's quite tasty, ( Read more... )

yuk !

I don't understand the "vegan" thing. It is just bad because you need this.

What don't you understand? What are vegans lacking? b1? it's in simulated meat products.
It just takes more effort. I can guarantee there isn't a single person I know who's following canada's food guide..but we *need* to right? :)

I don't shit about canada food guide. But the thing I know is that you animal proteins. And these you can not get them with vegan-only product....

I've never liked fluffy brownies. Call them cake and I'm fine with them, but if someone offers me a brownie I expect to bite into something chewy. As to vegan brownies, I like this recipe http://theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index.php?RecipeID=161. They're not quite as chewy as not-vegan brownies, but they're the closest I've found. The blondies from the same site are even better http://theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index.php?RecipeID=52.

Fine. They are very dense cakes cut into little squares.

They are still good.

I'm sorry that I missed you this weekend though. I made Tim promise that the next party I attend will have you there.

Hopefully I'll get to try your cake squares tonight, but I'm not too hopeful there are any left :) Tim tells me the next party is in July, and I'll plan on being there.

All gone. Sorry.

With luck, there might still be some of my meat toretilli or vegan chili in their fridge.

I have a pretty decent recipe for vegan brownies that uses vinegar and baking soda as the rising agent. We should compare brownies sometime... I also occasionally add other special ingredients. :)

Like crack cocaine if you're hitting on the recipient?

I was being considerate to the (rather small) straight-edge crowd that was in attendance.

If you really want to make sure your brownies aren't vegan, try adding bacon!

Everything goes well with bacon.

Where did you get Valrhona chocolate? They have it at Vincenzo's now?

Yes. Vincenzo's has it in 1kg bricks.

Do they ever! I remember my first purchase of said brick, biking to calculus class with a huge brick of Valrhona in my bike bag.

I hope you're enjoying the rest of it.

Foolish me. I should have bought some to drag to Montréal with me. I guess now I'll have to either find some of it here, or go back to Waterloo and buy 5kg to bring back.
