I've spent the entire day working in front of the television. Work on this computer has progressed very well and I'm able to do everything I can think of right now.

Early this morning, I used it as a terminal to SSH into work and do some hacking. Granted, I'm not able to use an 80×52 character terminal, but this was rather expected. gnome- ( Read more... )

I'm sure you're aware of this, but just in case... don't use esd for video playback. It has huge latency. It's awful. Why esd is even still used is a wonder, considering so many people have tried to make a better replacement (and some have even succeeded).

Lack of hardware mixing has actually been remarkably of little concern for me for the past few years (when I stopped using esd). Of course, since 99% of all audio on this computer is just gaim playing a little sound for "message received", I guess it's not all that surprising.

Given that you have a nice hardware-accelerated video overlay going to the wrong screen ... perhaps you do have hardware mixing, but you simply haven't found where it's going yet. Has your toaster been making any odd sounds lately?

It's been a lot easier than going out, getting a bunch of equipment and trying to find a place to store it.
That depends on exactly which type of patience you have.
