It was the little things like that that enabled me to not have the enormous pile of １円玉 at the end of the year like, say, Andy had.

I still get the occasional weird look from shopkeepers when I hand them like 1031 yen so I don't have to carry around assloads of 10 yen coins. Even after I tell them several times to just type it into the keypad they still try to hand coins back to me. I've enlightened most of the local shopkeepers but when I went to Singapore it was particularly bad.

Oh yeah? I've never experienced that look. I think they were just impressed and confused by you doing something Japanese. :)
