George, Zippy and Bungle were my idols back then. I would have been shocked. Then again, I probably wouldn't have understood the double entendres.

This wasn't really a children's show was it? Please say it was some sketch comedy program having a laugh.

Na, it was actually a children's program.I used to watch it every day as a kid. It was always very sexually odd, due to the relationships and genders of some of the puppets. They managed to sneak this one in. This came at the time of Captain Pugwash, Seamen Stains, Rodger the cabin boy etc.

And I used to wonder why you Brits are all such pigs (and I mean that of course in a very, very, very good way)

Rainbow was totally awesome! I loved Bungle as a kid - so guess I've always been attracted to bears. Though it did confuse me why he got dressed to go to bed!

Gosh,

I used to watch "Rainbow" as a kid too. We were fed a HUGE diet of British TV shows in New Zealand - children's, music, drama, period, etc...

I DID read that this was an episode that didn't actually air, but a 'fake' show that they did for their staff (BBC?) Xmas party... and now it's out for all to see!

Isn't it just FAAAAABULOUS!!? :-)
