In order to get my mind around certain social networking concepts, I have to line them up with some sort of allegory to the real world.  For example, LJ to me is largely the equivalent of standing around in a bar tooshing the tish (bonus points for successfully IDing the reference, and Google won't help you) with various people of varying degrees ( Read more... )

They are all a curse. I am embarrassed by the time that I waste on them all. At least LJ can consist of complete thoughts.

I must admit I'm on facebook, but I am not hooked on it. I've been able to stay in contact more with family than I thought I would. I'm not on twitter though and I'm not sure I will be. But I hope it is something that works for you!

I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. I used to love it in spite of itself. I now hate it except for a few features. I pretty much only use it for event invites, I can't keep up with my friends' newsfeed.

I love Twitter, I've got it on my phone and I only follow people I want to read. None of this damned "waah! you haven't accepted my friend request!" crap you get on facebook. On the other hand, you get all kinds of followers on Twitter. As long as you don't care who is following you, you're golden.

Some of it is essentially spam -- commercial ventures who follow people, especially newbies, in the hopes that they'll reciprocate. Not that they would ever read anyone else's tweets, they just want to be read themselves.

Ignore them (literally) or block them (via the features on twitter).

I've been blocking those who don't look like real-people names. Like Newton RealEstate. Well, something like that.

Not on FB or twitter and, so far, have had no compelling reason to think about going there.

Can't say why folks are following you. I still can't figure out why I have all these people who follow my LJ posts.

Also confused.
