The very last thing I want to do tomorrow is get into my gear and dive. All day. Then take a test ( Read more... )

Oh my god, putting on the weight belt underwater???? Arggggh. I really don't think I ever did that. I think they just passed me because I refused to stop trying (at first I wrote crying but that might be true as well) and they needed to check out the other students on skills ( ... )

I refused to stop crying. But my instructor informed me that one can cry in their regulator, as well as laugh and throw up. Nice.

Yes, he kept trying to get me to slow down when taking my gear apart underwater and putting it back on. But he gave up, said I was after that gear like a shark on bait. I even kicked my fin across the lagoon.

Not graceful, but I passed. He was the sweetest guy ever. And a total hardass.

That was unbelievably hard. And I didn't do it in a thick wetsuit in a cold quarry. Who's bad? You're bad.

I'm in awe... Water always seems so deceptively gentle amongst the Sacred Elements of Life, yet as Lao tze wrote in the Tao te ching, it is also the most relentless... what can you say about an element that has the power to wear a hole in a stone?

I'm sure it has all been Magickal, exhilarating, and even when you've been in pain, like nothing you've ever experienced before. Hope that does make it all worth it. And very happy to see you have a cheering section that can advise about diving, something about which I know zilch!

My dive instructor kept reminding me that I was surrounded by the most powerful of all elements and that I could draw power from it. How blessed was I to have a mystical dive instructor?

And we could barely get anything done for the sea turtles demanding attention. I would call that pretty magical.

Oh, they have a price. At the beach bar, they are $12. But some days, they are worth every penny.
