To me, in order to be FWB or fuck buddies the sex would have to happen a bit more frequently than just once every two years or so ... So I answered 'just friends', but I think it's also a bit messed up because I don't think it's a good idea to sleep with someone you've been in a relationship with after you've broken up.
That's what I would usually say, but then what else is there to call it? Also important to note is that the reason for the long gaps is that one or both of the people got into new relationships, so if it hadn't been for that, maybe it would've been more frequent. Perhaps we have stumbled upon a subtle distinction here between friends with benefits (someone you're friends with but have occasionally been sexual with) vs a fuck buddy (someone who's main role in your life is to be a sexual partner) too? Idk, it's open to interpretation I guess xD
I think I have been interpreting the difference between FWB and fuck buddies differently, but I'm not sure if those words have very strict definitions lol. To me the difference is more between whether the friendship is more important (FWB) or it's more about the sex (fuck buddies). The situation you described above, to me, would be more 'messed up' I guess.
I think opinions differ on that. Generally I view them as interchangeable, but maybe the difference is the frequency? Like a FWB is a friend you have occasionally had sex with, but a fuck buddy is someone who's main role in your life is to be a sexual partner (i.e you have sex often).
Lol, forgot to add that one. I was tempted, so very tempted, to just keep adding row after row of "just friends" "really honestly seriously Just Friends" type things but I thought that might unfairly influence people's choice ;)
