ugh, not only completely unacceptable but so played out that it's shocking they're still riding the same imagery after all this time.

the fact that it's Bar Rafaeli just makes me inexplicably mad at Leonardo DiCaprio and I was already pissed at him for Blood Diamond.

I'm sorry if I misunderstand, but are you stating that Irit rolls like this on a regular basis?!

oh, no, I wasn't even familiar with Irit til this post. I meant that this is the same old racist imagery that's been present in white culture for ages. black people as servants/props, white people lording over them. it just amazes me that the repetition of these kind of blatantly racist images still hasn't cause that *click* in so many people's minds, you know? goes to show the power of privilege as a motivator of willful ignorance.

it's terrible that a region as diverse and potentially inclusive as that of Palestine has become dominated by white hegemony, both politically/militarily and culturally. then again, the appearance and cultivation of Whiteness on the part of Israel probably goes a long way in stirring pro-Israeli sentiment and us/them feelings in the western nations whose support is being courted.

It's amazing how privilege can migrate.

I saw this a good long while ago, but then, decided others ought to too.

And hoping that those who have a problem with this will go to the contact sectin of Irit's main site and share their opinion of this in reasonable, polite terms.

What's even more fucked up is that the models of (significant) color are only used as props. It's not just a fucked up photoshoot where some of the models play inappropriate roles, I looked at the collection and none of the models displaying the clothes were of (significant) color.

Word. And suddenly all the casting for those Biblical epics that Hollywood did makes more sense. Hell, look at how they cast William Shatner as the 'All-American' while they cast Leonard Nimoy as the 'other'. smh

Seriously. While both Jewish, their casting varied so much based on their looks.

Bingo. And you look back at Israeli identity formation? Lots of the 'new' Israelis looked hella lot like Germans.

Hmmmmm.
