power spikes ate my HDR

Colour me numbskull.

In the past 5 weeks I've had power outages & more power dips/spikes than I can count and I still didn't get me a surge protector.  My Hard drive recorder packed it in last night.  It kept freezing failing to send a signal to my TV.  And given that my TV is close to 8 years old and is a budget, budget brand at first I thought it ( Read more... )

When Tivo died a terrible, horrible death I almost cried. I had so many great shows I'd been meaning to burn to disk and never got around to. I feel your pain, and grieve with you.
If it's any consolation, I doubt a surge protector would have saved it. We had several outages and brown outs in one night and it took out the computer.

I'm resigned to the loss, though I'm sure there's more stuff I haven't watched yet that'll come to mind in the next few weeks.

:( I'm so sorry to hear that! I remember how heartbroken I was when the compy technician accidentally wiped the wrong hard drive on my computer. I hope you can get it back!

I'm so sorry! Our HDDVR did that last year too. There was so much I was still planning to watch (I lost some Jane Austen stuff too).

I'm remarkably not upset ... think I've got bigger worries than TV shoes (like making sure I can pay the rent in 2 weeks time!)
