not actually paying attention to the plan

Nov 27, 2008 09:29

And last night it dawned on me that one of the reasons is that I don't have enough sewing pins in circulation!  If I pinned the bustle hem, that'll take all of them. gahhh.

Wednesday Revised
Finish bustle cage.  pulled the plug on the bustle cage as it's very unlikely to fit under this skirt.  Note to Self: Don't waste time on non-essentials when there's more useful things to do in limited time.  I have the crescent shaped pad made to support my crinoline dress.
Cut & baste aviator cap toile together.   - nope I didn't!   cos I spent my time faffing about with the ....
Cut out Ageless patterns 1869 summer hood
and sew it. Plain & untrimmed   Well again lack of pins came into play.  I had enough to cut it out (though I disagree with the fabric width specified on the pattern envelope.  It cut out of 140cm fabric ok but the pieces don't fit on 112cm wide.  While I was falling asleep my brain wondered if cutting it on the bias might make a difference.  But I'm not going to experiment with layout at this time.  The wretched envelope didn't specifiy 1 yard of fabric PLUS 1 yard of lining fabric, did it now. It simply said fabric required 1 yard.  bahhhh.  Cos I had to rummage through my stash & my scraps to find another lawn that toned in. I only had white voile and it was too narrow.  [insert expletive of choice]  Botheration.

So I did something a little crazy, I used the 1 metre of linen viscose (an Armani bought in the Fabric Fantasy closing sale). It has plenty of drape but so isn't lightweight as lawn or 1800s muslin.  I'm using the pink lawn as a lining.  But again I only had enough pins to baste the central cap part and pin half of the caped part.

Hand baste trim to lobster.  So didn't do this
Cut & cover bonings for bodice.  Didn't do this either
Pin skirt hem up but don't press hem edge.  And therefore nobody is suprised that this got ignored because of the Great Pin Shortage of 2008.

Thursday Revision #2
Forgot that I'm visiting a friend on Thursday evening.   Ugh, Ripley's sick and that's bad news cos now there's a good chance she won't be at the picnic. But that does get me some sewing time back.  So I'm going to Spottie after work to get more pins.  yayyyyy
Decide which shoes to wear - which means picking up the parcel from the Post Office cos it might be my 1850s+ flat shoes.  Don't want to be in heels all day.
Pin skirt hem up but don't press hem edge
Try all on & check hem level on skirt.  Alter hem if necessary and sew it. Note to Self: Don't over-think this one
Cut & cover bonings for bodice.
Hand sew bones to bodice seams.

Friday Revision #2
Sew aviator cap if it fits.
Hand baste trim to lobster.  Supermarket trip for lunch supplies.
Make the apple pie!
Press clothing and lay out clothing.
