danced til my foot hurt

Saturday night was the Pride & Prejudice Ball in Canberra, hosted by Earthly Delights.  John provided us with 2 hour lesson on Saturday afternoon (at such a minimal cost) so that us out of towners weren't going to be completely lost.

A salutory reminder that the basic fitness level of the past was infinitely greater than ours.  I really really ( Read more... )

Thanks. The hat was fairly quick to make, though not exactly what I had in mind when I cut it out that afternoon. Never mind, could always be worse!

Wow, your headdress turned out really well, I think "last minute" projects often turn out better than things we plan for ages anyway. The reticule looks really cute too. Glad to see at least a couple of people made an effort with a headdress of some sort, I always think that is the difference between "fancy dress" and a real costume. A few costume hire shop outfits in the photos I think, to put it kindly, but not everyone is as brilliant at sewing as you. Great to hear you had such a wonderful time, do they plan the next one at the same time of the year next year? Perhaps we should think about starting a Regency club in Sydney. Might get a few takers in the Parramatta area what with Old Government House and all. We had quite a good Colonial Ball 2 years ago, might talk to a few people and see if they're interested.

ooh a regency club would be lovely. Please do cast a net around.

EG mentioned that the dance group has members who will never be found in costume, some that leave their costuming to the last minute, and my take is that there are those who Panick, thus not taking a Rational approach to construction.

The best bit of my sore feet is that it isn't the part that I've had to have physio on! That spot is very happy, so that means the treatment worked.
