I've done miniature bonnets before for stuffed animals, so I do have a basic idea of what I'm doing on the bonnet, but have you got any tricks/tips you could lend from experience? I've run over some of the tutorials here and on EGL before, but I'd appreciate anything.

my first bonnet making experience was actually really fun!! it was a floppy bonnet, not a hard bonnet. for a bonnet like this if you plan on using buckram know that it'll cut you like paper. and it hurts. second, during the making of the bonnet keep testing the shape. also, if you can, put some wire on the very edge of the brim and it'll help shape the bonnet to a round shape.

You're very brave to start on such a fancy coat! I'm going to tackle one for the first time this winter as well so we have to encourage each other! I have no coat whatsoever that matches any of my lolita outfits so this is super important!

GO US! *high-five*

My coat doesn't fit anymore (and I've grown out of gothic), but has the basic shape and cut I need.

I totally understand. The coat I'm thinking of making is this one:

I figure the cut would be great for lolita as well as a lot of the regular styles I like so I can't go wrong with multi-purpose!

Wow! Good luck with these - I'm really interested in seeing these progress! Princess seams are easy as long as you sew stay stitches first and pin, pin pin (that's my method, anyway). There's a great video tutorial on Youtube that helped me, and I think it's the first result - I'm afraid I can't get onto yt right now.

Thanks for the tip-off! :D Youtube videos are how I learned to gather and ruffle to begin with. They're the best.
