I'm not entirely convinced that it'll give you the shape you want. You might like to try a half-circle skirt, they give amazing flare but only at the bottom which suits an A-line a lot better.

Check and see what your final hem measurement would be. If it's about 3x your waist measurement, you should be okay. You may want to try a trapezoid or (half) circle skirt though to the shape you want though. (If you do a half-circle skirt like scandium suggests, make sure you hang it to allow the bias of the fabric to stretch properly.)
