repairing bras?

okay, so i FINALLY found the perfect bra for my body/my boobs. i'm short-waisted and the wire isn't too enormous for my torso (won't stab me in the armpits), it fits/shapes my oddball boobs that need lots of assistance, and it's made of super soft cotton material with no exposed elastic ( Read more... )

I usually sew a bit of wide bias binding over the area, sort of enveloping it in a bias binding "cap".

I do something similar to this when it starts poking, just patching with reinforced fabric. Because I don't do it preventatively, it just makes the bra last a month or two longer.

i imagined regular fabric would just buy me some time. i'm hoping some fabric (that bias stuff?) will be tougher. or maybe a couple layers... pffft.

Is it possible your bra size has changed since you bought the first bra, and that's why the newer ones are malfuntioning? Boobs do change size, even if there is no weight change, as we age.

no, the bras fit just like they used to. they fit perfect, but the wires have popped out of the sides.

Do you mind if I ask what kind/brand of bra that is?
I have the same problem with the armpit poking and I've yet to find anything I'd consider comfy.

And I've used the bias tape (as the first commenter suggested) to reinforce the end so the wire doesn't pop out so easily. It's worked pretty well so far.

it's simple and random, but it's the vanity fair sophia bra. kohl's often has them for $13 but my size is often not there. (i wear a 40DD. you may have more luck depending on your size.)

Got here via random clicking, but I darn the hole and then dab glue/clear nail polish over the darned spot - works a charm!

Completely off topic, but I drifted here on a whim and saw your picture... Did you do your undergraduate work/edit the newspaper at U of New Haven? You look very familiar.
