Дело тут совсем не в собственности, оно у Франклина было, мягко говоря, отнюдь не либертарианским:

Это все хорошо и прекрасно, но не имеет никакого отношения к Бену Франклину. Он, как Вы можете видеть, не считал частную собственность "священной" или "естественным правом", хотя и признавал её полезность для общества.

И он, кстати, был не единственным среди Отцов-основателей США, кто разделял подобные взгляды.
