Has anyone of you read THE AUTHORITY?

I'd love to read it, I'd even buy it. Is it any good? I'm looking for more information then the amazon reviews, -.- ...

I mean, read this interview quote of the writer:
The Authority feels like a crusade to me at the moment. Superheroes have been useless for too long. Let's make them mean something again. ( Read more... )

comics, marvel, books, dc

I've read 12 issues. Not sure if they're the first 12, or where they fit in, but they're the ones written by Warren Ellis. Not sure if he's the writer you quoted above or not, but I know he's not writing it right now.

It's an enjoyable serious. Definitely a more intense, more serious take on the JLA characters than DC would ever allow. Of course, it also has the relationship between Midnighter (basically Batman) and Apollo (basically Superman), which DC also would never allow.

I can upload scans of those 12 issues for you if you're interested.

And because of that more liberal and straightforward take on superheroes I want to read it.

So, yes! I you would? :D (Also, if you had some more BuffyS8 to share, I'd be very grateful! :P)

I have up to issue 15 of BuffyS8. How much of that do you need? I'll zip and upload it all together.

Uh, I've read up to Anywhere But Here, in which Buffy n Willow fly and play, guess what, and she has a lil fantasy about Daniel Craig.

The Authority is genuinely one of my favourite comic series *but* it depends on the writer - the Warren Ellis run, unsurprisingly, is brilliant. It's revolutionary and political and the characters are fantastic. Millar does some good stuff but I hate his characterisation of Apollo and Midnighter with a blinding passion and one of my friends says that he turns them into a bunch of thugs, which I can see. It's still good but not Ellis-good.

I actually wrote a The Authority fic for yuletide, I love it so much. (The Fractured Traveller).

It's crack, it's well crafted, it has some of the best comic book characters and I do love it but it has some flaws ;). I'd say give it a go, particularly the Ellis run!

That sounds fantastic! I'm glad I found this gem of a comic series today.

Ha! Yay! There are people writing about it? Yay! *opens your fic reverently, to be read first thing in the morn tomorrow*

There's not much fic around but it is a great series!

Do you know the weird moments in life when you do something or learn about something new and the whole world seems it the perfect moment to use innuendos or blatant hints of it around you?

Why is everbody thinking it's the one moment to bombard me with TT/YJ icons when I write Kon/Bart fic? Huh? Weird...

They coined the term "widescreen comics" from the Authority.

Its a great series that turned into a good series, but that was really more Warren Ellis blowing off a little steam. If you get a chance, read Planetary also written by Ellis. He twists a lot of status quo characters and ideas into really neat new ideas. VERY ENTERTAINING.
