So, yesterday twistinside82 was asking for music recs. So of course I immediately uploaded 968574 of my favourite songs, and then realized that I really couldn't spam her journal with all of them, even though some of them are ones that we have thought about making schmoopy vids for, because we are lame like that. So *then* I thought, I will post them on my ( Read more... )

Hee... it's what I ended up doing yesterday, check out my LJ for my favorite music. Can't say I've heard of any of it but I can't wait to listen... I love being turned on to new music.

Thanks

OMG another Maria McKee fan! I got into her when Lone Justice was the opening act on a U2 tour, and when she later became a Robbie Robertson protege. "Sweet Sweet Baby" is my favorite too, but "Ways To Be Wicked" is a close second. I still remember when MTV actually played those videos. (!)

For Kirsty, who was producer Steve Lillywhite's ex-wife (I still can't believe she's gone), I'd add "In These Shoes?" which is just a fun, sassy Cuban-flavored number. And maybe "Walking Down Madison" too.

Nick from Dream Academy was last seen opening a solo show for Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour in London a couple years ago. It must have been some show, as none other than the reculsive Kate Bush joined Gilmour onstage for a rendition of "Comfortably Numb" from Pink Floyd: The Wall.

And kudos to you for picking the non-single Stray Cats songs, many of which were more awesome than the better-known A-sides they released.

Wow, I just got notified of this reply. *sporks LJ*

I've never met anyone who's even known who Maria is, and now I've met two through LJ in one week. :) I adore her. Can't recall how I first discovered Lone Justice, but yeah, it was probably U2 for me as well, since I was a massive U2 fan between 1980-1985. Do you know/like Maria's solo stuff, too? There really is not a single bad song on her first two albums.

For Kirsty, who was producer Steve Lillywhite's ex-wife

Yup. *nods* And yet another U2 connection. I remember seeing photos of Bono at Kirsty and Steve's wedding. By all accounts Kirsty was just phenomenal in every way. Funny, smart, talented, and sexy. She had it all. (I adore "He's on the Beach", but I'm partial to "There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Thinks He's Elvis", too.)

follow-up to my other reply...

Just googled Nick, have no idea how I missed this info in previous searches. Anyway, yes, he has an album as "Trashmonk", there's song clips on one of the sites (amazon, I think). Very non-DA-ish but I'll definitely be ordering it! Found a mini-biography too... the man has had an interesting life.
