mp4 to avi???

Okay, so do any of you brilliant people know of a safe, free program that converts mp4 files to .avi files?? I know there are a few out there, but I know nothing about them -- and you know that technology hates me -- so I would really love some recommendations and assistance.

You should download free converter at cnet site. My converter is sothink video converter.

I have checked a whole bunch of places! (Though I don't know if cnet was one of them. I went to a whole bunch of places that had reviews and stuff.) And I'm finding that half the reviews say the thing is god's gift to conversion, and the other half say this thing is shit and gave me a virus. So I thought I would turn to what my flist actually has experience with. You guys are always the best. :)
