I think we had some kind of power surge or something in my apt building. My computer froze at the exact moment that my niece's DVD player froze (she lives next door.) If you aren't running Vista then the suggestions seem to be either a dying battery or a defect in the power unit/cord. I have a similar problem occasionally when my computer tells me it is running on battery power when it is plugged in. I think my power cord may be starting to go (It is almost 3 years old and is worked to death so I am not surprised) since it will start to work if I plug and unplug it several times and bend the connection end a bit.
I hope it keeps working for you.

I am indeed on Vista, and have never had any problems. I'm a little leery about doing the fix-it that you linked, simply because it involved uninstalling the battery and my fear is that it then won't re-install, you know? It's awful having that awful fear that I'll just make the problem worse! Thankfully it's still working this morning, so I've just saved the page and I'll know where to turn if it happens again.
It also may be the power cord, as you also mention, since it was when I started wiggling things around on the little box that connect the power cord to the surge protector that it started working. *sigh* I really REALLY hate technology.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!
