Almost one week later, but I'm finally typing up my "trip report" of my weekend in the Berkshires. Lots of pics but none of Randy if that's what you're interested in.
What a wonderful report, with many pictures of very pretty ladies!
Thank you. I wish I could have seen Randy in this play. I was amazed that I saw him in Antony & Cleopatra, but, from all reports, this play and his performance were something special to see.
And, yes, you are a bit naughty for posting a Simon sighting!! This Simon looks very happy. It's great to hear a cat recovery story.
I'm very glad I got to see it. Last year, I was really worried about Cuckoo's Next because I found the move SO disturbing, but I had no problem with it. This year I wasn't expecting any problems, and I was blown away with emotion. That Randy.
Thanks for sharing! I loved the pictures. Especially Simon--he's better looking than I remembered! (That's a joke.)
Your reaction to "Waiting for Godot" is EXACTLY why I didn't want to see it. Even the pictures of Randy as Lucky broke my heart. Then I read the reviews and I wished I had tried to go because his reviews were so amazing. But I know I would have reacted like you did or even worse. You would have all had to pretend you didn't know the weepy basket case!
But one of these times, I AM going to meet up with you all and see Randy on stage!
I don't think anyone at all knew that I was thisclose to tears. Well, except for Jackie who was incredibly supportive and told that it was a perfectly valid reaction and basically to cry if I wanted to. Believe me, the last thing I wanted was to burst into tears in front of the Red Lion. At least if you had been there, we could have wept together!

Thanks for sharing so many details about your trip. I'm almost glad now that I didn't see this play, because I get extremely annoyed and upset when people laugh at things in plays and movies that are truly heartbreaking. I wondered why so many people have commented on the "comedy" of this play. I didn't get it! And without seeing this production, I still don't understand.
However, I would gladly see ANY play of Randy's, he is THAT amazing, so I am still jealous!
And I loved Stockbridge! But I'm confused about the Red Lion kitty. I also have a photo of Simon - same exact cat - taken in 2006. Maybe they have their dates mixed up? Because he was a full-grown (even porky) cat when I met him and took his picture.
There are moments with just Didi and Gogo alone where the comedy aspect was played up -- sometimes between the actors themselves and sometimes by breaking the 4th wall and almost addressing the audience. It worked then. I mostly had issues with it where Pozzo and Lucky were concerned. Their long scene hurt and any comedy seemed wholly inappropriate. There was also a moment in Act II where the tramps are mocking Lucky and Pozzo and I have to admit a laugh was surprised/shocked out of me only because of the copious amount of drool that the actor managed to spit onto the stage!
I am so impressed by how talented Randy is.
Re Simon: I got the story from another guest who saw me petting him and came over to talk to me. So she likely got the times wrong. Geez, I hope his name was really Simon!
Yes, that's the same Simon, I just checked my trip scrapbook and I have a photo of him - same markings exactly. Probably they just got the timing of his adoption wrong!
