I am the anti-Quest

I've mentioned before the concept of being customered. This involves customers of an establishment asking questions of other people who don't actually work there. This happens to passengeraction a lot for some reason. A really lot. It even once happened to him while I was standing beside him in uniform. I'd guess it's the jacket. It makes him look 'employed'. I ( Read more... )

Happens to me too - I was waiting at Kings Cross mainline for some meeting recently, reasonably smart trews, shirt and tie (but no namebadge), hair tied back and with a variety of visible piercings... and the number of travellers who bombarded me with mainline-train-related questions in the 15 minutes I was waiting was just untrue. Luckily being a bit of a traing33k I was able to point most of them in the right direction (or at least in the direction of someone who might know the right answer)

I do occasionally get stopped on the tube by customers passengers asking for directions, again the traing33k inside me tends to know most of the answers.

Funny. I lol'ed. Only ever happens to me in supermarkets, when I'm usually wearing a bright yellow nepalese coat.

Oh I didn't mind. I generally have no clue what the answer is anyway so I'd rather they didn't ask. I seem to have real difficulty linking a word (that I usually know) to a map. I'm going to blame it on the slight discalculia.

Welcome to my world

*grin*

I had a truck driver stop and ask me for directions this morning while I was waiting for the bus at 6am.

I asked a DSM for directions today and he rattled off something along the lines of 'Out there, up the road, turn right, down some steps, along the lane, go left, keep straight on, up some steps, turn round, have a banana, first door on the left and ask for Doreen.'

Then I looked blank for a bit and waited til his fellow DSM stopped laughing and took me outside for more pointing-oriented directions.

I tend to get customered in places where the uniform doesn't resemble the LU one at all - M&S (black and green), Sainsbury (orange or burgundy) or in Morrisons (mmm...tabards).

One day on a meal break, I'd wandered over to Sainsbury and was in my own little world deciding which pot noodle to have when someone walked up to me and asked "Where do you keep your rice?" Somewhat taken aback by such a personal question from a stranger I answered her honestly, without a moments thought as to possible consequences..."In the cupboard, next to the fridge" I replied and the lovely stranger started shouting at me telling me I had a "problem" over and over again, so I just wandered off with both the pot noodles.
