Our power is out because of a storm, which, yes, it's logical, but power keeps mankind safe, in some respects. Well, who knows what sort of creatures or force would take advantage of that. Think of all the uses we have for electricity and now it's taken away.

That's true. I hadn't thought of that. I'd ask if creatures like that would be likely here, but I'm guessing that anything is possible here. At least some people have candles, and the rest torches.
