Okay, first of all I'd like to say that I hate my internet connection here at home. It's bad enough that it's slower than molasses most of the time, but I swear that it's been out more than it's been working this summer. And it takes them longer and longer to fix it every time it dies ( Read more... )

OMG YAY Futurama icon! :D

My compassion to you and your unfortunate and terminally ill intarwebs connection.

I think I'm going SLIGHTLY MAD at the thought that The Dark Knight will only be released on AUGUST 13TH in France. AAAARGH. *curses, shakes fist* (Honestly, everyone on the internet but me is talking about how brilliant the film is. It's kind of infuriating. Just a little.)

I can't wait to see the movie. My entire friends list has been going on about how awesome it is since last week, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Ooh, jealous of the new Temeraire! It's not out here yet and I'm very excited about it.

The teaching assignment sounds interesting. How long is that for, and what exactly is a magnet school? It's not a term that I've heard before.

I don't know all the details yet, but - based on student teachers I had back when I was in school - I'll be there for somewhere between three and four months. It will start out with me playing a secondary role, teaching some small lessons and getting used to the students/teachers/etc. Then I'll start taking a bigger role so that, by the end of the semester, I'll be doing most of the teaching.

As for a magnet school, it's basically a specialized public school (which, if I remember correctly, has the opposite meaning in the States as it does over there). They're usually much smaller than a normal school, and - in the case of the one I'll be at - its focus is academics so the classes lean more toward the honors scale. Students have to apply to move from their home school to that one, and in order to stay they have to meet certain requirements.

There's more information in the Wikipedia article that might explain it a little better.
