Okay, so as I've mentioned a couple of times recently, the plan is that I'll be moving out of my current apartment and into a one bedroom sometime early next year. The Blackberry 8530 is the CDMA version of the Blackberry 8520 (which is GSM and has a SIM). Because it's CDMA, it doesn't have a SIM and therefore cannot be unlocked. The bands it covers are 800/1900 which means that it *might* theoretically be used in other countries (USA is 850/1900, rest of the world is 900/1800, not sure who has 800) except that it can't be unlocked.
Given all that, I don't think this is the phone for me. It's a pity, the reviews are quite positive and the specifications are good too.
