Okay, so as I've mentioned a couple of times recently, the plan is that I'll be moving out of my current apartment and into a one bedroom sometime early next year. Because of that, I've been taking a closer look than usual at just how many books and DVDs (and other things, but mostly those) I own. While there are some of them I have no plans ( Read more... )

I'm interested in the blackberry but I don't have much spare cash right now. I'll need to get it unlocked on this end, but that hopefully wouldn't be too much. How much were you thinking?

It's an older model, and most places online seem to be selling used ones for somewhere around $15-20. I've noticed most listings mention that it doesn't work outside the US, so you might want to double-check to be sure it would work there?

After some careful research, I have determined the following, which I'm detailing for you so you don't have to worry about researching and can answer anyone's questions by pointing them here. :)

The Blackberry 8530 is the CDMA version of the Blackberry 8520 (which is GSM and has a SIM). Because it's CDMA, it doesn't have a SIM and therefore cannot be unlocked. The bands it covers are 800/1900 which means that it *might* theoretically be used in other countries (USA is 850/1900, rest of the world is 900/1800, not sure who has 800) except that it can't be unlocked.

Given all that, I don't think this is the phone for me. It's a pity, the reviews are quite positive and the specifications are good too.
