Once more with computer issues...

So, yeah, I've basically given up on my desktop at this point. It's staying on for less and less time before shutting down, to the point where -- the majority of the time -- we're talking a matter of seconds rather than minutes or hours. It's an old computer, but I've got an XP all-in-one touchscreen desktop that I flat out don't use. If you want it, you can have it.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm good. I bought a cheap keyboard and mouse to hook into my laptop, and it should work well enough for a couple of months.

If you're anticipating a tax refund large enough to cover a computer purchase, then it might make more sense to reduce your withholdings for a few weeks, or even the rest of the year. It's perfectly legal, and is economically smarter than using a credit card, or using rapid "refund" options (which are high interest short term loans that are predatory and shouldn't even be legal). You can turn in an amended W-4 marked "exempt" or simply speak to the payroll department at work. If your refund won't be large enough to cover two months worth of no withholdings, then turn in yet another W-4 in a few weeks. Again, perfectly legal.

Good luck!

I'm not going to buy the computer until I pay off some other bills, so it's not really worth going to quite so much trouble. I'll just be patient and keep using my laptop for awhile.

That sucks about you desktop. I have moved everything to my laptop since my desktop crapped out last year. I mostly used my desktop for storage and video steaming but it was nice to have.

*nods*

I've been using my laptop for writing and my desktop for everything else, but after I started having trouble with the desktop I started using the laptop for more and more things. And now it's handling basically everything.
