More churches should be like our church, where you can be a lesbian and they'll still make you a deacon. *sigh* Despite my obvious political and religious differences with your father, I feel for him on the "only one they ever call" front. My church has me doing IT not just for the church, but for half the members, while my stepfather is constantly down there fixing things and my mom does the books. We're all on one of the boards, we're all on at least two other committees each, plus other assorted jobs, and we all feel like we've worked a full day after getting home from church on Sunday. It's exhausting.

It's doubly impossible for a lesbian to be a deacon at my parents' church. I mean, there's the LGBT part, of course, but lesbians are women and everyone knows that women can't be in positions that would mean they have power over men. :-/

Oh, good point. Your parents' church is the hardcore version of the church that everyone around here calls "that really strict one with all the sexism." If I was a millionaire I'd hire an actor to dress as Jesus and show up at those churches and shout, "Did you even listen to me at all?"

That would be fun.

Yeah, the churches of Christ would definitely fit under the description "that really strict one with all the sexism." :-/

I hope that everything goes well so you can go to VidUKon! That sucks about you parents church not being more accepting so you can be the who are and not who have to pretend to be. *hugs*
