The Avengers

Just to check, is anyone else in the DC metro area interested going to see a midnight showing of The Avengers next week?

We're planning on meeting up at the Majestic in Silver Spring for the 2D showing. (Because the three of us who are planning on going right now all agree that 3D? Not nearly as great as people seem to think, especially when you ( Read more... )

What drives me up the wall is when people go: "oh, why don't you just wear contacts when you go to the movies?" Which, yeah, I really should try to start wearing them again. It's just that seven years of working in restaurants? Meant contacts were a really bad idea, what with all the grease and such in the air.

Also? I'd really rather not go spend money on contacts just to see a movie. :-/

I can't touch my eyes! lol I can basically never get contacts.

I think that the only reason I managed it was because I absolutely hated wearing glasses when I was younger. (Mostly because my mom insisted on picking them out, and she would inevitably pick ones that guaranteed that I'd get made fun of by my classmates.) She promised me that when I turned 12 I could try to get contacts, and I was so excited about not having to wear glasses that I pushed through no matter what.

I really hate 3D. It gives me a headache, the glasses are uncomfortable (and word on the double-glasses madness) and I find it distracts from the actual, you know, MOVIE.

I don't mind it if I'm wearing my contacts and, if it's done well, I think that it really does look cool. Unfortunately, most movies don't do it well, and it's not worth the effort of me paying for contacts just so I can wear them to watch one movie that does every now and then.

It's so odd seeing a town name I recognize. :) (I grew up, at least partially, in Berwyn Heights.)

(Because the three of us who are planning on going right now all agree that 3D? Not nearly as great as people seem to think, especially when you already wear glasses.)

THIS. SO VERY VERY MUCH.

I don't mind it if I'm wearing contacts, but it's just not worth the cost and effort of updating my contacts subscription just so I can go see a movie in 3D every now and then.

I'm between a -10 and a -12 (I bounce around a bit) and the way I see the world is different from a person with 20/20. Or even a person who is still measurable on a 20/20 scale. I have depth perception issues. 3D may well be wasted on me, period.

Ah. Yeah, I'm somewhere around a -8 with a slight astigmatism, so even with corrective lenses my vision isn't 20/20, but I luckily don't have any major issues with depth perception. I can definitely see why that would make 3D even more difficult for you, though.

It's midnight on the 4th, right? Like, between the 4th and 5th? I can never figure out what day midnight showings are actually on.

Either way, I'd love to come along. I'm working late on the 4th but get off at 9, so I can just head to Silver Spring from there.

Every time I've been to a 3D movie I've had to balance the glasses on top of my other glasses, which makes me feel very silly.

The movie comes out on Friday, May 4th, so the midnight showing will be at 12:01am May 4th. Which would be Thursday night, or - more precisely - between the 3rd and the 4th.

Ugh, I'm working till 9:30 on the 3rd and at 9:30 a.m. on the 4th, gross. Still, I can come after work and just get extra sleep the day before. That totally balances out, right?

Well, I've definitely done it before. I'm not saying it was necessarily a good idea, but...
