Dreamwidth vs. LiveJournal

Jan 15, 2012 13:44

As some of you might have noticed, I'm in the process of going through and cleaning up my subscriptions on Dreamwidth and LiveJournal. Basically, I'm trying to clean up duplicates so I'm not reading the same posts on both sites, while also making sure that I'm following people on Dreamwidth rather than LiveJournal if they have an account on both ( Read more... )

dreamwidth: circle, livejournal: flist

I sometimes duplicate, I'm trying to duplicate my art posts at least on both sites, but I'm still putting LJ only content. So it's probably better to follow me on LJ, not DW.

Currently I'm posting different content on each one, and only using DW when I want to do something that doesn't work on LJ. Eventually I'll do things the right way.

I'm crossposting now. I was lionessblack on DW, but I switched over, for various reasons, to lionessvalenti on there. So if you wanted to add me on DW, that's the journal I'm using there. :)

I cross post, but because I post most things behind flock and I know that some people may prefer to read stuff on LJ vs DW, I handle it by leaving them on my flist on LJ but filtering them off default view. I prefer that solution because it's the best of both worlds - it doesn't matter then where they read, because they'll have access to my posts on their preferred journalling site. And I only see their posts once ( ... )

I've thought about doing that in the past. My big issue is that I don't use filters for reading, though, so - while I could give people access on both sites - that would mean that I'd be reading a lot more people on LiveJournal instead of Dreamwidth (where I'd just be giving them access without subscribing) so that I wouldn't see two copies of the same post.

Which, you know, wouldn't be so much of a problem if LiveJournal would stop changing things so that I physically can't spend much time on their site without getting a headache. :-/

No, I get that LJ has made things impossible for people, but the thing about 'default view' is that you don't have to read it via filters.

If you set up a filter called 'default view' then basically that's your friends page. Which is why I like it. Because it's simple and requires no effort on my part ::g:: (I set mine up years ago when I didn't want to see certain people's posts any more because they made me unhappy, but didn't want the drama of defriending. I posted to that filter for a while, too, but now I've got the eff over it. They still aren't on my default view, though ::g::)

Ooh, I'll definitely keep that in mind.

From here on out, I should be crossposting to both. I'm not leaving LJ because I'm not ready to leave comms, but the comment page is such crap it drives me crazy. <3
