I may never leave the Northeast again.

I did get stared at in a bar, a lot, in Texas for having short hair. I leaned over to my friend Amanda and said "are people staring at me because they think I'm a lesbian."

"Na," came the reply, "just a soccer mom. Women don't cut their hair off here 'til they have kids."

Since I moved to Maryland, I've had exactly one person ask about my sexual preferences based on my hairstyle - and he was very polite about it and only brought it up because he wanted to know if I'd be insulted if a (male) friend of his was thinking about asking me out. Considering I got asked that question at least once a week back home, it's been a very pleasant change.

It's just... gah! I mean, I've had this hairstyle for over a decade now. I wasn't even old enough to really have a sexual orientation when I first started wearing it this way.

. . . hell-bound homosexual . . .

Those people are going to be awfully surprised when they arrive in hell and don't find any gay people.

What really blows my mind is that so many Christians will completely freak out over homosexuality, but they're willing to simply brush over "lesser sins." If they were really following the Bible, though, it basically says that all sins are created equal - so focusing on one and ignoring others doesn't work.

Actually, Jesus does say there's one rule more important than the rest: Love thy neighbor. In my experience, the hyper judgmental people are the ones who haven't really read their Bibles at all, and prove it repeatedly.

I have a head-shaking moment daily over attitudes in the South, about this and many other things.

I love the South. I really do. It's just that I hate it as well.

There's a statement that sums up my opinion of the entire human race, actually.

Odd, I live in Georgia and there are a lot of women here who have short hair, I don't think it has anything to do with where this person is from just insanity or religion.

Oh, I'm not saying that there aren't lots of women in Georgia (or Alabama, or Tennessee, or wherever) who don't have short hair. It's just that, in my experience, people tend to comment on it a lot more in the South than they do in other regions - mostly because, as you said, religion plays such an important role in everyday life in the area.
