I just got an e-mail from a random student on campus telling me that they're trying to get an active Democratic political club started up in the next few days. They're as sick as I am about the majority of people on campus ripping into us for not supporting McCain/Palin, and they really want to do something about it ( Read more... )

Oo, well done them.

Sigh, politics can be facepalm-inducing like that. Yes, fate of the free world and credibility of a superpower and all that, but at the end of the day it's only an election.

We've actually had about two dozen people show interest, which is more Democrats than we thought were even on campus.

Contact your local Democratic headquarters for fact sheets, possibly, and just general help and also the Obama campaign itself, as i'm sure they have all kinds of mailers and things.

I stopped by the Democratic headquarters in Jackson (which is where I'm doing my student teaching - the town where my school is doesn't have one), and they gave us some information as well as a few contact numbers for groups on other nearby college campuses. Considering this is the middle of the Bible Belt, even the non insanely conservative schools have been having some trouble so we're hoping that at least the three main colleges in the area might be able to work together some.
