Glad someone else appreciated Bakemonogatari as more than a fluff show.

Honestly, the original Nadeko Snake is one of the creepiest things I've ever watched. All the time, I had this irrational feeling that I was watching something I wasn't supposed to be seeing. Everything seemed to be darkness and sex and pain and it felt like I was looking into someone's private dream, not something meant for public consumption. The lolicon overtones and gutpunch of an ending didn't help matters.

I watched some of Nisemonogatari, and it was much as you said; superficial weirdness, along with as much fanservice as TV would allow. I wasn't even aware they made a third season. But I'll give the show another chance to surprise me.

Yes, it was good.

After Bakemonogatari there's Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari. Nekomonogatari is only four episodes. The current series is referred to as the second season, I guess implying Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari were specials. There's supposed to be 26 episodes in this series, rather a lot for this kind of show. Which is nice.

Yeah, 'season' is kind of arbitrary in anime. Maybe they're considering every 26 episodes one season.

Right now I'm watching Genshiken Nidaime, which despite the name is actually in its third season. If you like shows that comment on otaku culture, I recommend Genshiken.
