To my shame I didn't really know about this either. I adore the novel, and while I've always been wary of his ridiculous faith, I was quite comfortable in divorcing author from output. But this is too much.

I haven't read any of his books--I heard about his stance on homosexuality first and that put me off. There are certainly plenty of artists whose work I enjoy whose personal outlooks I find disgusting. But with so many great books I haven't read yet the homophobe's, however great it may be, has fallen rather far down my to-read list.

I'm entirely with Donna Minkowitz on this one.

I guess the trick is where an individual draws the line.

Yeah. Well, as a lover of old movies it'd be hard to watch many if I wasn't willing to watch the work of people whose views I despise. I certainly wouldn't watch any Cecil B. Demille movies though some would argue he's worth skipping in any case.
