Having lived through the actual events I have little doubt that Thorpe was bang to rights- and the establishment closed ranks and got him off.
Thorpe was a charmer and a chancer, not so very unlike our current PM. I liked Grant's performance, but thought he fell short of the flashiness of the original. He was also rather too old.

I thought Wishaw was tremendous.
