I've never warmed to Shane- or felt it quite deserved its place in the pantheon of great westerns. You've done a good job of highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. I can buy Alan Ladd as a hit-man in a fedora but he's just too smooth-chopped and 1950s to be credible as a western gunslinger.

Thanks, yeah, I think movie is very good but not on a level with the best John Ford or Anthony Mann Westerns.
