I'm very fond of Bernard Cribbins. His career is full of funny little highlights- a couple of novelty songs (engineered by George Martin), stints on kids' TV, support roles in Peter Sellers movies, a treasurable turn in The Railway Children and- as you say- Wilfred Mott.

He was born and grew up in Oldham, the former Lancashire mill town where I lived for something like 30 years.

Nice. I haven't seen much of his work--aside from this and Doctor Who I think I've only seen him in a memorable supporting role in the Hammer film She. But I do like him.

The dear man is about to publish his autobiography and the Daily Mail is giving us edited highlights. Apparently at the Oldham Coliseum he once played the Marlon Brando role in Cat on a Hot Team Roof. Now that would have been something to see!
