Arthur Darvill is a very good actor- but Rory was a thankless role. Putting a young married couple on board the TARDIS was a mistake.

I did think Darvill made some good choices with his performance but, yeah, with the drama between Amy and Rory the nice chemistry established between the Doctor and Amy early on got kind of lost.
