I always thought Irish hellraiser Harris was odd casting for Cromwell, but he made a good job of it.

We do still rather tiptoe around our Civil War- and I suppose it's because these are still live issues. We also prefer to forget that there was a time when we were a Republic.

And both he and Guinness were Catholic, I read now, which must have made an anti-Catholic version of Charles I seem especially strange.

We also prefer to forget that there was a time when we were a Republic.

I've been reading a lot lately about the period and it's endlessly fascinating to me.
