So, my office has decided that they're going to do a Games Day sometime in September. Naturally, I weaseled my way onto the planning committee (and by "weaseled", I mean "mentioned that I have my own games that I'm willing to lend to the cause"). We had our first meeting on Monday, and I mentioned some of the games I had in mind (they have to be ( Read more... )

Will you have a set of playing cards there? That gives you Hearts, speed, etc, etc.

Other than that, if Fluxx is too complicated, I'm not sure I've got any ideas...

Fluxx is too involved and difficult? The game practically plays itself ^^;; Maybe it's too much card text for them. Or maybe it's also that the average gamer can handle a larger information load than the average person (I don't know, am I assuming too much that the people in your office aren't your average gamers?)

I could recommend 2 simple card games called Boomo and Loot, both of which can usually be found in the game section at a department store (Target, KMart, Fred Meyer, etc).

Brian has (recently) had Loot in-stock. I keep eyeing it, because it's a Knizia.

Just eyeing it? For $6, it was pretty much a "why the heck not" buy for me XD It's basically a trick taking game. 3 types of cards in the deck; merchant ships, pirate ships and ship captains. Merchant ships have treasure value and players play pirate ships of varying strength and color on the merchant ships. Captains are trumps. Interesting part is that the merchant ships sit out there while contested until someone can win them. The game is played pretty fast as a turn is either draw one OR play one; not much decision making per turn.

And I love Boomo, it's a classic favorite around here. Like Uno but you're trying not to set off a bomb XD

I think MSRP is more than $6. Either way, it's a Knizia, and I haven't been disappointed by any of his designs, yet.
