It's offical...

... I am on lifetime thyroid meds. Most people wouldn't be depressed about such a thing. Well, I am. Ok? I'm not doing for sympathy or any such special treatment. I knew this was coming, I could see it a mile away since September. Just knowing for a fact is enough to make me want to slit my throat. I know this sounds familiar to some folks here, ( Read more... )

If your thyroid was low and you're getting it supplemented it will probably help the depression. Don't know what your DX is. I have an autoimmune disorder where my body has been slowly killing my thyroid for many years. I was diagnosed at 17 years old, but it was probably going on for years before that. From about puberty to the time I started meds I was depressed, at times suicidal. I'm thirty four now. I remember when I started the Synthroid. It was literally like waking from the dead. But it takes a little while, I don't remember how long.

BTW...I followed your link from AFF Forums if you're wondering who the heck I am.

I recognized the name ^_^

I was just wondering how you found me. And I've been feeling a lot better lately. A lot less suicidal since I started them last week Tuesday. I still feel that way from time to time though not as bad. The first time I took it, I noticed by that evening that things felt better. The incessant hot flashes had stopped. It was like it was instantaneous. And it sucks that it was just now caught and not years ago. Hopefully things will continue down this slightly more rosy path. I know things won't be all roses without the thorns, but now, hopefully there will be a lot less of them.

Thyroid problems are pretty common and often go undiagnosed because the symptoms are often pretty subtle. Especially if it's just a little off.

Mine didn't get caught until my heart started skipping beats. I spent a whole day feeling my heart hesitating every other beat until I could see a doctor. I was scared to death. It was a huge relief that it wasn't a heart condition and all I had to do was take a little pill every day.

I'm leaning towards saying it should be one of those standard screening tests given with annual physicals or at certain ages.

My heart still skips now and then...very disturbing.

Yeah they should screen for that especially girls entering puberty. I was told that it can start going wonky for females around that time. Cause I started having very mild hot flashes mid-high school. They got a little worse after I took Depo shots for my period and birth control. BC pills after that also aggravated my hot flashes and after my son Dylan was born again they started getting worse and after my recent miscarriage they were very very terrible and they seemed to be getting worse. I nearly fainted from one two weeks ago.

I was scheduled to get my blood taken again on Nov. 1st, but the near fainting spell, it scared me and my doctor and she moved it up to two weeks ago. 3 days after my near fainting spell. And that brings me up to today... >.
